Editing

When we had finished editing our video we realized that if you listen carefully to the music, there are a couple of small glitches that. We have tried editing those certain points in the song but we were unable to correct it without making it worse. But luckily when it came to our audience testing, no one really noticed the glitches as they were too busy focusing on the visual part of the video.

We received a couple of suggestions to improve our video, for example one person said that our narrative section was too bright and was hard to determine it from the rest of the video. So we made a small change by making all the narrative black an white, we have found that this makes it more effective as a whole and are happier with this alteration.

Audience Feedback

From our audience research we carried out before making our product we found that they would like to see a live band performance along with some kind of story line. To see if we have managed to acheive this and also back it up we have composed the following questions which we have asked to people once we have showed them the finished product

1, What features of our video make it indie/rock?

2, Can you explain the story line of the video?

3, What music channel would you expect to see this video on ?

4,Can you relate the story tot he live band performance?

5, Do you like the video and do you think that it works?

6, What emotions do you feel when watching this ?

Filming

We decided to use car headlights as we thought that it would create bright lighting. We chose to use a mini and have it recognisable this shows the fun personality of the band

Music Glitch

When listening to the song closely we found that there was a small glitch in it. This doesn't effect the lip syncing or the actual music video just does not sound 100% right when listening to it.

Editing

We came across some problems with the contrast between the narrative and live band performance this was because of the lighting. We decided to put it in black and white and it looked a lot better after as it was less harsh on the eye.

Editing

We have now completed out editing. After re-filming our footage came out a lot clearer. We also had the chance to take some shots at different angles. We filmed this first and then we came back and fitted it to the time line on final cut express. We decided to do it this way round as then we would know exactly what we needed to film for the narrative.

When filming the narrative we thought we would tell the story of how the boy was trying to get with the girl but she was not at all interested in him. We showed this through him taking an almost stalkering approach and following her.

We showed their different class by the amount of costume changes they had. The female character has 3 costume changes and he wears the same throughout the same thing. This shows his uncleanliness and that he cares less about his appearance.

We used the lead singer of the band to take the lead role on the video as this will create a link between the band and the narrative. He is also wearing a hurricanes t-shirt which is advertising the band.

We have used product placement by putting having him give her some chocolate fingers. This is something commonly found in music videos. This would help to advertise the product. Their audience will see them with the product and want to buy it.

Editing

We are making progress with our editing and we plan to sort out the rest of the shots we have remaining. We incorporated our idea of using a T-shirt with a logo for our band on it. We used the logo from the original album cover and a similar font, the t-shirt is a link from the video to the album cover and is a subtle advertisement, which will make viewers want to buy the product, it is also a surprise for the audience because it'll the 'something extra' for them when they watch the video.

During this editing process we plan to make quick cuts within the quick changes in the song. Also, we made the song slightly shorter so it improves the song quality as it had a small jump in the song and also, it makes our video seem smoother than it did before.

Narrative Filming

For our narrative section of our video, we're having problems with casting as a couple of people we had in mind to appear in our narrative section have personal issues which prevent them from being one of the roles. So, our group have to find other people to appear in our video which shouldn't be too hard to do.

Filming

We refilmed the live performance section of our music video so that we don't have the grainy effect to the shot. This time we used a HD camera so the picture quality should be increased due to us having better lighting as we had made reflector boards, more torches than before, and brighter car headlights than we had before.

This time we didn't use the zoom at all, instead of using the zoom we pushed in and out while filming the specific thing. We did this to save on battery power and we also did it to improve the picture quality so it didn't turn out as bad as it did the first time round.

When we refilmed the footage on monday night, we kept the rule of thirds and the 360 degree rotation ideas in mind as we used both of them which were more effective then using a different technique. We used low angle and high angle shots to give our video a more professional feel and look to it. We included a 360 degree shot of the drums to make it feel like the audience has an 'all access' view of the band, so that it feels like nothing about the band is off limits.

Possible Album cover shots

I like this shot with the mic hanging over the guitar.

The left hand side of this shot is too dark. But does incorporate the band name.

This shot has the mic which creates the look the band has just finished Playing and also the band name.

Still solo shots

I decided to use the flash on the camera for this shot. Although it is a good brightness it does not at any atmospehere to the scene.

Again this shows a shot as we thought it would come out on film.

Another shot of the drum kit being lit using the spotlight.

This photo has been taken using the light from the cars, i really like the angle that the light has caught the drums we did this by using a high angle shot witht he light coming in mid height from behind.

This shot was taken from a low angle with a spot light pointing up the guitar this gives the illusion of it being alight. We also used a canted angle to make it long bigger and also add some angle variation.

Still shots taken during first filming session

The Flash on the camera was not used when taking these photos only a torch as a spotlight and it was on auto setting.

During this shot we used full beam instead of dipped headlights you can see that it is alot brighter

This shot is taken with the lights at dipped. It creates a warm feeling but still this is not enough.

This shot shows how clear people are shown when only the dipped headlights are on this seems as if it would have been ok.

This shows an example of a torch being used as a spot light. The backlights are off and the shot is being made bright from the high watt torch.

The lighting used in the shot would not have been enough as it only has the front lighting which keeps the whole frame very low key.

As can be seen from the photos it would seem that the lighting we used would have worked. This is why we decided that we should continue filming, if we had realised that it would come out as poorly on film as it did we would not have.

Things to do in the next week

We need to get our narrative fully filmed.
Edit our Live band performance.
Attatch Song to timeline.
Create poster.
Create Album cover.

Filming

We re-filmed last night and the quality of the images are a lot better. We made the area we were filming lighter by using torches to define the bands faces, this added to the light produced from the car headlight is enough to produce a lighter shot.

Another big difference was the fact that we used a HD camera, this again gave a sharper image which was an issue we came accross last time.

Some of the changes we made when filming this was to take shots from different distances away from the band instead of zooming in which wasn't smooth and also reduced the quality of the shot. We also asked more people to come and assist us with turning the song on and holding torches as two of us found this very hard to do and also film.

Whilst at the tunnel we were able to get some still shots which we will be able to use on our CD cover and also the poster.

Rescheduled Filming

Due to the weather conditions and instruments, we have decided to cancel filming tonight as the quality of the film would not be as good as we needed.

Filming

Due to the poor quality of the shots we took we are going to have to re film. We had planned to do this over the half term but due to poor weather conditions we were unable to. We are hoping to be able to do get it all within the first few days of the week this includes the narrative. This will leave us time to edit durinf the end of the week. As can see from the phots we took there was sufficient lighting but becuase this was a high quality camera the shots looked ok. If they had not come out aswell as they did we would not have continued to film. To try and avoid this problem we will shoot when there is more light avaliable so around 5.30 this this create some low ambient lighting but in the tunnel it will be still dark enought to use spot light. If again this fails to work we will try and keep as much of the whole band footage but we may have to shoot some of the close ups in the drame studio where we can use alot stronger lights.

Editing

We have uploaded our file to be edited but we have come across a couple of problems. Our shots are too grainy and we are finding it difficult to edit what we've got so far. As we have these problems with our footage, we're going to refilm what we've got, but do it with better lighting to make it less grainy.

Audience research

I have taken a couple of screenshots from the band's music video on youtube to see what their target audience is and where they're from.

Narrative Planning

In this lesson we are planning to meet up in half term to film our narrative section of the video. We need to find a day where we're all free and we also need to book out the camera.
